CALGARY SUN - APRIL 19, 2006
SIDEKICK - A SUPER RETURN

by KRISTA SYLVESTER

Although he’s on a tour across some of Canada’s finest cities, producer Michael Sparaga is most excited to return to Calgary.

“Calgary is such a great city. It was a real special event last time and the response was great. We just got such great support we want to bring it back to them,” Sparaga says.

Currently in Winnipeg to show his movie ‘Sidekick’, Sparaga and the lead actors of the movie are making their way across Canada to personally show the movie in theatres.

“We just love sitting in the audience and watching this great movie and the audience just gets it. They laugh and cheer in all the right places.”

Sparaga says that the tour has been one “crazy adventure” but not one he wants to end anytime soon. “We still can’t believe we’re here. We just feel like rockstars. It’s the best feeling in the world and we don’t want it to end. It’s just so much fun.”

Sparaga says that the difference between his movie and most Canadian movies is that his is pure entertainment whereas other films are more intellectual.

He says, “It’s a guy with superpowers and people love that. It’s just a cooler and darker movie that it hits people on an entertainment level.”

Set to show in Calgary on Wednesday April 26th at the Uptown Theatre at 7pm, Sparaga, the lead actors and the director will be there to introduce the film and have a question and answer period afterwards.

Sparaga first showed his movie last September at the Calgary Film Festival and says Calgarians loved it. “The question and answer period went on so long they had to come in and tell us to wrap it so when we left there were people still waiting for us in the lobby. It was so exciting to see.”

And Sparaga is hoping for more of the same this time around.

“People love it. That’s all I ever wanted.”
